Brief description and main aims

The aim is to educate approximately 205 students with special needs. To create a “safe haven” for disabled children, and to provide special therapy for them. 

Main Activities

The project’s activities revolve around different types of classes for the children and also workshops  focused on fostering their autonomy and independence.

Volunteer tasks

The children are separated into groups depending on their skills. Activities vary between: change diapers, feed them, help the therapist with daily activities, etc. Volunteers can help with arts and crafts, play games and practice their reading and writing skills. Depending on the volunteer’s experience, they can also assist the therapists.

Volunteer requirements / Skills

  • Good communication skills
  • Outgoing, caring and motivated
  • Past experiences working with kids is a plus
  • A desire to work with disabled children
  • Patient and proactive
  • Basic Spanish skills

Location

The center is in a rural setting. Ambato is a fairly large city in Ecuador, with about two hundred and twenty thousand inhabitants. 

Hosting Situation (Board and Lodging)

The volunteer will live with a host family.
