Rhiannon Community is located in the highlands of northern Ecuador and has been operating as an off-grid intentional community and organic farm since 2008. We have been recognized across South America as a hub for perma culture practice and skill-building. Rhiannon began with a vision of transforming a run-down farmhouse and 15-hectares (38-acres) of over-exploited farmland into a world apart from mainstream culture—a place where people could grow, heal, live sustainably and regenerate the land while also living in community.
The activities we offer and engage with are based on our 5 core values:
- Live & Work in Community
- Regeneration of Mother Nature
- To exist as a place of healing
- Permaculture Principles
- Personal Growth
The role of the volunteer will vary on an individual basis. Some prominent roles at the community have included positions such as being part of a’ building team’ - which could involve many aspects from initial design ideas right through to interior decoration/ furnishing. Some community members find their role within the ‘gardening team’ which can also range from garden design right through to seeding/ planting and harvesting.
Volunteer requirements / Skills
Rhiannon Community accepts adult volunteers of all ages, genders, and identities. Volunteers from diverse backgrounds such as the LGBTQ+ and BIPOC communities are especially encouraged to apply. Families and children are welcome. Volunteers should come with some knowledge of English
and/or Spanish. Volunteers do not need to come with any specific skills and will be provided with training and practice through hands-on work in the community.

Hosting Situation (Board and Lodging)
Volunteers will work and live on-site at Rhiannon Community in one of our
many shared or private lodgings, depending on length of stay and availability. There is no need for daily travel compensation as all work takes place on site. If volunteers wish to travel outside of the community during their free time (within Ecuador or to the local town), there are local taxis for hire as well as a bus into Quito. Volunteers receive three vegetarian meals per day as well as some living essentials (bedding, toilet paper) in exchange for their time and energy.
