Brief description and main aims

Centro Educativo Ñanta offers attention to street working children and adolescents of the city of Sucre. These young workers are usually migrants from the countryside that want to be part of a social group and continue learning. These kids have the possibility to go to Ñanta Centre where they receive food, an education, medication and find friends to play with.

Cultural and sportive events are being organized so that the children can be children and not only workers. Furthermore, there is a social worker who helps the kids with psychological problems and family conflicts.

Main Activities

The Centre's main activities are:

offeirng pedagogic and social support and giving the children a recreational space. The project runs music, painting, arts & crafts and drawing workshops.
providing the children with a childhood outside of their daily responsibilities, giving them an educational, recreational and stable space.
supporting their primary necessities and taking care of their health and hygiene.
increasing the childrens' self-esteem and creativity through free expression and reflection about their identity.
giving them means to improve their own life, motivating them to continue their education and looking for other work forms.
encouraging companionship, solidarity and fraternity between the children.

Volunteer tasks

The volunteer has the freedom to implement any suitable and educational activities. Also he/she has a big role in organizing sporting activities.

Volunteer requirements / Skills

The volunteer should know basic Spanish and have a tough character considering that many of the children are accustomed to life on the streets; therefore, the work may at times be quite demanding.
