Brief description and main aims

Centro Integral Comedor Popular “SAN CALIXTO” is a nonprofit organization, coordinated by the Catholic Church that provides quality food to people in need (homeless, kids who live and work in the street, single mothers, elderly people and workers).

Comedor San Calixto has been working for more than 28 years providing lunch every day.Different groups of people seek their help. Everyday between 150 to 200 individuals recieve a meal. The meal consists of a bowl of soup, a second dish and a glass of juice or milk for the children, and dessert ( usually fruit).

Main Activities

• Helping solve the problem of hunger by providing lunches
• Alllowing thevisitors to use the facilities which include showers, a hair salon, and a a pharmacy
• Providing medical care  and dental care
• There is a therapeutic service for alcoholics and a play centre for children
• Promoting informal education activities

Volunteer tasks

The volunteer can help in all tasks concerning the Centro San Calixto:

• Scheduling and developing all the activities and tasks with project staff
• Supporting teachers with baby care
• Helping in the kitchen at least 3 hours per day in all the chores in the kitchen even cleaning
