Type: Health: Rehalibitation - Country: Mexico

Brief description and main aims

APAC serves poor people with cerebral palsy, from birth to adulthood, by providing them with educational services and comprehensive rehabilitation.

Secondary objectives:
  • Provide individualized education to our students looking to achieve their maximum development, in an environment that promotes self-esteem, and encourage socialization with peers.
  • Achieve maximum possible rehabilitation of our patients through early detection and design customized physical and psychological rehabilitation programs.
  • Provide special training and necessary tools so they can get a job and achieve self-sufficiency, independence, and social inclusion.
  • Create awareness of the needs of people with cerebral palsy through advice, training, and participation with human rights organizations.

Main Activities

APAC I.A.P. provides comprehensive rehabilitation (biological, psychological and social) for people with cerebral palsy, from childhood to adulthood.

In order to achieve the former, the project works as a center of rehabilitation, with different areas of service:

Educational services

  • Provide schooling from pre-school to high school to our beneficiaries.
  • Provide non-formal education for young people through different recreational workshops and training.
Rehabilitation services (physical therapy, occupational therapy, hydrotherapy, and communication):
  • The project has an early intervention service with high-risk babies. This is a preventive program where they teach the parents how to monitor their baby and encourage his/her development.
  • Provide individualized and customized attention to each one of their students.
  • Provide food to participants. The food is prepared and brought to the center by their parents. The project team supports students that, because of their level of disability, cannot feed themselves.
  • The Psychology Department provides family caregiving courses, talks on specific topics and group/individual therapy. We also provide individual therapy to students who request for it or the project detects that they require service.
