Brief description and main aims
Nagi is a town located in northern Okayama Prefecture, with Mimasaka to its east, Tsuyama to its west, Sho-o to its south, and quasi-national park Mount Nagi and Mount Taki connecting it with Chizu in Tottori Prefecture to its north.
With the Nagi Museum of Contemporary Art and Yokozen Kabuki, Nagi has developed a unique charm. It is a town that breathes art and culture as if blended with nature.
In 2012, the Nagi Town Declaration for Child-rearing Support was announced, leading to unique measures for child-rearing and settlement for young people, resulting in a Total Fertility Rate of 2.95 in 2019, one of the highest in Japan.
NPO Citizen's Action Center Minna-de-Shoei is working in a variety of activities to resolve issues in rural communities. It is an Intermediary Organization that supports small NPOs and businesses working for regional development such as childcare, after school care, international/cultural exchange, agricultural development, and Tradition restoration support in Nagi Town, Okayama Prefecture.

Main ActivitiesIt supports many different projects in the Nagi Town community. Cultural exchange events with foreign people living in the town through cooking and music.Organizing farmers' markets with organic farmers. Traditional food culture promotion and preservation activities. After-school support for children and cultural activities. Support for local traditional events, etc. |
Volunteer tasks
- After-school programs for children
- Assistance with farming work at local farmer, support for farmers' market vendors
- Support work at temples (visit each household, support for Buddhist memorial services, administrative support)
- Support for the operation of local festivals and traitional events.
The first month will be quite busy with visiting all of the above activities and helping out at many places. During this time, you will be able to explore and find out which activities you wants to deepen that match your interests (need the adjustment depending on the availability of the host family and project).

Volunteer requirements / Skills
- Open to all kinds of work and willing to expand your possibilities by being actively involved rather than passively.
- Have a spirit of challenge and volunteerism, and be able to positively engage in a variety of activities.
- Be willing to introduce the culture and language of yours, and learn about Japan deeply.
- Love to live in the Japanese countryside
- Love to interact with people, to talk, and to teach children.
- Be willing to do physical work such as farming.
- Able to ride a bicycle, as we sometimes use bicycles for transportation.
- Have a willingness to learn Japanese, although language is not a major issue as there are suporting parson who can speank English.
- Not be allergic to animals, most of the host families sometimes have pets.
