Brief description and main aims

Granito de Arena is an international organization that aims to have a positive impact in the life of the most vulnerable (elders, children, and youth with difficult backgrounds).
 
The secondary objectives of the organization:
  1. Provide basic needs and psychological support to the elders
  2. Protect and provide psychological support to children and youth, victims of sexual abuse and/or work exploitation 
  3. Create campaigns against sexual abuse on children

Main Activities

"CUIDA POR AMOR” (CARE FOR LOVE)
A campaign to raise awareness of sexual abuse on children. The organization organizes chats with experts, conferences, movie screenings, and other activities. They also create and distribute informative material (flyers, etc.)
 
“ADOPTA UN ABUELITO” (ADOPT A GRANDPARENT)
A support program for elders who are homeless or abandoned by their families. The organization provides material needs (food, wheelchairs, diapers for adults, etc.) and organizes events. The main objective is to provide love to the grandparents and treat them with respect and good intentions.
 
DEJA TU HUELLA (LEAVE AN IMPRESSION)
A program to involve civil society in the activities of the organization. The organization organizes donation, cleaning and reforestation campaigns, and also a yearly raise to increase awareness on sexual abuse on children.
 
CENTRO DE ATENCIÓN INTEGRAL PARA NIÑOS Y JÓVENES VIOLENTADOS SEXUALMENTE (SUPPORT CENTER FOR SEXUALLY ABUSED CHILDREN AND YOUTH)
A Center to support children and youth, from 3 to 25 years, who have been sexually abused. The center provides psychological support and different types of therapies to the patients

Volunteer tasks

The volunteer's tasks include:

  • Support in orphanages
  • Support in nursery homes
  • Help the organization to implement fundraising events
  • Participate in workshops about sexual abuse to learn, and later provide the same workshops in schools (together with an expert)
  • Organize and provide several workshops for kids
  • According to the profile and disponibility, the volunteer will be able to support in administrative areas
The participants of the project are people with difficult backgrounds, so they can be hard to approach.

Location

The project is located in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas.

Hosting Situation (Board and Lodging)

The volunteer will live with a host family.
