Brief description and main aims

Escuela Urbana Mixta “Dr. Modesto Rodas Alvarado” is a governmental/public school for approximately 400 children and youth, aged 6-13, of the rural community of Taulabé, which offers primary education prior to the commencement of high school. The school’s main objectives are to provide high-quality education and help the development of the community Taulabé.

Main Activities

The school teaches all the subjects of the primary education curricula for grades 1-6, it promotes the importance of education for development, and works to maintain good facilities in order to have a healthy environment for its students, offering different sports and music formation opportunities.

Volunteer tasks

The volunteer is a teacher assistant, helping organise the different classrooms. The volunteer can:

• organise and offer English or music lessons, scheduling them together with the teachers
• organise after-school activities, teaching different workshops or courses on a particular subject, such as sports
• help out in the general maintenance of the school’s premises

Volunteer requirements / Skills

• be at leats 18 years old
• be friendly, open-minded, creative, very patient, and be willing and interested to work with children and youth

Location

The project is located in Taulabé, Comayagua.

Hosting Situation (Board and Lodging)

The volunteer will live with a host family.

More Information

The project is available to start in February every year for 6-12 months.
