Special Needs Project (IDN-64)

Main Activities

The projects, such as Ungaran Disabled School in Ungaran and Yogasmara Autism Foundation in Semarang, provides care to students with special needs aged between 5 and 17 years. Education classes start as early as kindergarten up to junior high school.

Vocational training, sports, motorist activities, drawing, making handicrafts, dance etc are also provided. Some local volunteers also do several regular activities with the school like doing sports, playing with the kids, and teaching how to make some simple handicrafts. The project aims to give sufficient and good quality education for disable child and provide them with basic skills that hopefully will be useful for their future.

Volunteer tasks

The role of the volunteer will be assisting local teacher in conducting hands-on learning activities in order to stimulate children motoric. In this case, the volunteer should be creative in organizing activities. Moreover, the presence of volunteers and intercultural learning in a form of dialogue, music and games could give the students an understanding of another culture and country. 

Volunteer requirements / Skills

The volunteer should be open-minded, mature, respectful of local customs, tolerant, creative, flexible, patient, confident and independent. The volunteer should also be willing to accept basic living conditions in the project site. If the volunteer is placed in a kindergarten or elementary school an additional document of Certificate of Good Conduct from the police must be submitted.

The volunteer should have never been found guilty in a criminal case. It is strictly prohibited to possess narcotics, marijuana, opium, stimulants or other drugs. The volunteer should not have piercings on the face and no visible tattoos. A common hairstyle (not colourful, dreadlocks) is requested. Flexible vegetarians are welcomed but unfortunately, we are not able to host strict vegetarians (vegan).

These projects are located in Java Island.

Terminal of arrival: Semarang Airport, railway station (Volunteer is NOT ALLOWED to buy a flight ticket before getting the visa and confirmation from the host organization).

Hosting Situation (Board and Lodging)

The accommodation and food will be provided by host project. The volunteer will stay with a local host family or at a dormitory (to be confirmed). Facilities are simple and Indonesian style (no hot water, no washing machine).
