Brief description and main aims
Piratas do Pau (PdP) is a young design, product development and production centre with a strong social and environmental focus. The main objective of this sustainable social enterprise is to create unique furniture, bags and other products out of local materials like wood, metal, leather and reclaimed materials, combined with quality training and creation of fair jobs for young vulnerable Mozambicans. Our mission is to provide opportunities for young vulnerable Mozambicans to get quality training, professional production experience, real job possibilities and creation of fair jobs.

Volunteer tasksAs we are in the beginning of the new training program volunteers will be actively engaged in the setup of the training programs next to in the daily running of the production centre. The tasks will be partly in the office and partly in the workshop assisting the workshop chef, working with the young trainees and in the creation of the furniture and other objects.

With PdP there is place for a lot of creativity next to the opportunity to learn furniture making, welding, spray painting and other skills. We are a hands-on project where volunteers will work alongside young Mozambicans, learn about setting up projects, learn new skills and be actively involved in training and production.

LocationAs the hosting organization is located in different sites of Maputo and Mozambique the communities are very diverse. Nevertheless, the majority of them are located in the cities and surrounding areas, especially between Maputo City and Maputo Province.
Generally, the communities offers easy access to diverse kind of facilities like banks, including ATM, internet access, hospitals/health care centres, local transport from one place to another (especially between home and work placements), shops, entertainment and so on.
