Brief description and main aims

To provide shelter and education for children whose parents work on the street, providing a safe place for them to live a normal childhood with games, food and a good education.

Main Activities

Provide academic support and organize extracurricular activities for children (among 150-200 children between 5 – 15 years old in the afternoons, and in the mornings 50-100 children), whose parents mostly work on the street. Also, to support their families. Work with street children from the surrounding area with the purpose of giving them an education and a shelter while their parents work on the street. Tutoring, English classes, music, recycling and crafts workshops are offered.

Volunteer tasks

Volunteers must:

  • assist the kids with their homework
  • help the project’s staff with serving meals
  • teach the kids good table manners
  • help organize activities like theater, dance classes, cooking classes, sports, and other activities.

Volunteer requirements / Skills

It is expected for the volunteer to have :
  • a high level of motivation
  • a basic level of Spanish
  • good skills for working in a team and sometimes under pressure
  • creativity and motivation to help in all kinds of situations

Location

The project is situated in Quito’s historical center, in a neighborhood called “el Tejar”.

Hosting Situation (Board and Lodging)

The volunteer will live with a Host family.
