Brief description and main aims

To improve the bilingual education of children and youth in the Tena community and through this achieve an improvement in the standard of living of the people.

Main Activities

The volunteer activities are related to school support for children and young people. Specifically, the volunteers will teach English to the children, coordinate group games, teach communication skills and participate in dynamic activities. In addition to this role, the project also counts with a radio. You will be asked to participate in the programming and planning of the radio. 

Volunteer tasks

The volunteer’s tasks would be to prepare teaching material for the children’s English classes that he/she teaches together with the teacher. Other tasks are playing with the children and helping to do some sports. If the volunteer is musical, he/she should as well help with the Music class. Finally, the volunteer will be required to help in the planning and communication process of the radio. 

Volunteer requirements / Skills

The project needs volunteers that speak a good level of English, that do not consume alcohol or drugs, and people who are willing to teach the knowledge that they have, but also that are capable of learning about the culture and customs of the city.

Location

The project works with a school located in the jungle of Ecuador. Tena, Amazon region. 

Hosting Situation (Board and Lodging)

The volunteer will live with a host family.
