Brief description and main aims

This organization was founded in 2005 to create learning development for Children in Higashi-Shirakawa Village through various activities in nature, such as camping, agricultural experience and also intercultural experience.

The concept of their activity is “Experience make you grow!” Since most of children rarely have an opportunity to interact with non-Japanese people, this project will be a great chance for them to experience another culture and language. This will let them build an international friendship and widen their views to see the world differently.

Besides having a program for children available, the project also has a human resources program and works to support sustainable community developmet thorugh agri-tourism as well as works with farmers to introduce organic lifestyle to young people. 

Main Activities

Nature camping, agricultural program for kids and young people, English camp, rafting.

Volunteer tasks

The volunteer is expected:
  • To help with their various activities
  • To teach English or the language and culture of one's own to children and people in the village
  • To participate and help organizing local community events
  • To help to build and cultivate the traditional rice field
  • To help to create a Webpage or SNS page for promotion

Volunteer requirements / Skills

The volunteer should be: 

  • Open-minded
  • Enthusiastic and creative
  • Active and enjoy spending time with people in the community
This project requires “more than basic level of Japanese” since the people in this community rarely speak English. If you have basic skills in Japanese, the project is a good place to practice the language.

Location

The project is located in Higashi-shirakawa village with a population of roughly 2 000 people.This village is famous as one of the most beautiful villages in Japan, surrounded by rich primitive nature.There is only one elementary school and one junior hight school in the village. 

Hosting Situation (Board and Lodging)

Living in volunteers' apartment and having a private room or living with a host family depending on the availability.
