Brief description and main aims

The school was founded under the Catholic Church in the community of Gayaza parish and the entire town of Gayaza aiming to solve the problem of high illiteracy. The school offers quality education that enables the students to be self-reliant, innovative and God fearing. Our activities include teaching, learning, renovation, and co-curricular activities.

Currently, the school has children aged between 4 and 14. The school has 769 pupils, 52 teaching staff members and 13 support staff members with 12 members on the school management committee.

Main Activities

The school's main activities include:

• Teaching children
• Reading and writing
• Drawing and painting
• Playing games and practicing sports
• Learning music, dance and drama
• Playing with children
• Gardening and farming

Volunteer tasks

The volunteer's tasks include:

• Assisting teachers in classes of the little ones
• Engage in games and sports and other extra co-curricular activities
• Interact with the children of all ages
• Assist in all ways as assigned by the supervisor

Volunteers should wear appropiate clothes while on the school compound since we are working with young children.

Volunteer requirements / Skills

The volunteer should:

• Be able to communicate in English
• Be mature
• Be able to adjust to our culture 
• Be open-minded
• Be a good communicator
• Love to teach or have a desire to be a teacher in the future
• Be creative
• Be interested in sports
• Be social and able to interact with all the community members
• Be at least 19 years old

We can host both male and female volunteers, but female volunteers would be preferred.

Location

Hosting Situation (Board and Lodging)

The volunteer will live at the school and have an own room. Breakfast and other meals are served by the school.
