Brief description and main aims

Jardín de Niños “Eusebio Pineda Cantón” is a governmental kindergarten/pre-k and preschool for approximately 40-50 children, aged 4-5, of the rural community of San Francisco de Yojoa.  It offers childhood education prior to the commencement of primary school.

The kindergarten’s main aims are to improve the quality and efficiency of educational processes at pre-school level, guaranteeing the teaching of various subjects and forming future citizens engaged with their community and country.

Main Activities

The kindergarten teaches the basic pedagogic subjects of pre-k and pre-school education, and organises and participates in several civic and cultural activities, such as events with traditional dance and music of Honduras.

Volunteer tasks

The volunteer is a teacher assistant, helping organise the classroom, such as the different materials needed to teach each subject. The volunteer can create different handicrafts and teach them to the children and/or teach basic English using different images and objects.

The volunteer will learn different Honduran traditional games, and can also share traditional games from his/her home country. He/she can also support the staff members in the maintenance of the kindergarten’s facilities.

Volunteer requirements / Skills

• be at least 18 years old
• be willing and interested to work with small children
• be very creative, proactive, patient, and a good team player

Location

The project is located in San Francisco de Yojoa, Cortés.

Hosting Situation (Board and Lodging)

The volunteer will live with a host family.

More Information

The project is available to start in February every year for 6-12 months.
