Brief description and main aims

"Free School Swiss-Mura” is a boys boarding school that provides an alternative education to the students with various difficlties. It aims to help the children and youth to be independent and build relationships with variety of people.
 
The phrase “Free School” is used in Japan to describe an  “alternative  school.”  The surroundings of the school are rich in nature, and offers unique educational experience to the students through sharing the life together. The motto of the project is “Work well, eat well, sleep well."
 
 
 

Main Activities

Accepting students who have a different background, for example students who can’t go to the public school and want to live in the nature etc. The school provides classes including a lot of activities additional to the pubulic curriculum, for example fishing, playing music, harvesting, taking care of animals, building and helping at the cafe run by the students.

Volunteer tasks

The main activities are living with the students and help each other:
  • Volunteers will help with English classes, and other classes depending on the volunteer's interests
  • Volunteers also take part in the outdoor activities and agricltural work with the students

Volunteer requirements / Skills

Volunteers are expected to bring something to introduce their country, such as a map, photos, songs, plays and recipes.The students are all of different ages and developmental stages so it is requested that volunteers take this in to consideration in regards to what they bring. 
 
Video games are prohibited since some students are addicted to those. You can use the PC that is shared with other staff. The internet connection on the phone is not good.

Location

The school is located in Miyoshi Hiroshima.

Hosting Situation (Board and Lodging)

Volunteers will stay in the dormitory of the school. They have an access to bathroom, kitchen and can use a washing machine.
