SUMANA is a sankrit world, meaning good will. From its start in 1989, SUMANA has maintained this good will by extending an empowering hand to the rural poor focusing mainly on rural poor women and children.
We support women empowerment through a mix of community origination and social education, self- help group, income generation programme, skill training, community health, HIV/ AIDS programme and by having elected women representatives.
Model school for village children: SUMANA has opened a model school for rural children in mellahalli. The objective is to provide an equal opportunity of modern education at the unique facilities in this center.
Home for the girl child: Orphans whose grandparents are not able to cater for or girls whose parents are not willing to educate attend this Home.
Generally the volunteer’s task is to support the teachers in the class rooms and free time, but this of course leaves a lot of space for the volunteer to contribute with their own ideas.
