Brief description and main aims

Education at pre-school and elementary level for students aged 4- 11 and high school students aged 11-19. Promotion of intercultural exchange, contact with other cultures and promoting bilingualism.

Main Activities

The project provides education for children and teenagers (3 to 18 years old) from mostly very poor areas of Bogotá. In collaboration with the Pedagogic University the youngsters and kids receive different classes including sports, languages and arts. The school day is from 6:10 until 11:30/12:15.

Volunteer tasks

• To provide support to teachers in their classes
• Develop educational projects (e.g. environmental awareness)
• Assistant teacher in other classes depending on ability (Maths, Science, Geography, History, etc.)
• Support the coordination of classes and workshops (English/German) for children, parents or teachers (depending on interests)
• Can be a tutor for the youngest kids
• To participate and support sports, technology and extra curricular activities.

Volunteer requirements / Skills

• Able to deal with groups of 30-40 students
• Must be patient, full of energy, open-minded, sociable, creative and sporty
• Basic or advanced Spanish skills (or willingness to learn fast)
• Preferably able to teach in English.

Location

The project is located in Bogotá.

Hosting Situation (Board and Lodging)

The volunteer will live with a host family.
