Brief description and main aims

Clínica Esperança is a charity project founded in 1997 that works as an orphanage and provides shelter, care and a new family for kids who have personal and social problems (abuses at home, drugged mother, father in jail). Also, some of the children have health problems (HIV, physical problems, or mental disorder).

Main Activities

Currently, this project hosts around 30 kids, aged from 0 to 15 years old, who are waiting to return to their families or be adopted. These children consider the staff as their own family.

Volunteer tasks

The volunteer basically assists the staff with the daycare and helps supervising children in their daily activities, games, studies and meals. The children live at the project so it is important to make them feel good and accepted, to listen to their stories and to play with them. 

The project needs a volunteer who could create and develop some activities alone (inside or outside) with cheap materials: it could be with sport, games, reading stories, proposing simple art works, sing, dance. Any kind of activity is welcome!

Volunteer requirements / Skills

The volunteer needs to:

• have patience
• demonstrate maturity 
• not to be afraid to work with children with health problems or HIV

Location

The project is located in northern Porto Alegre, in a poor community about 40 minutes from the city center by bus.

Hosting Situation (Board and Lodging)

The volunteer will live with a host family.
