About

Rindang Asih 1 Elderly is a nursing home for older adults in Ungaran, coordinated by the Soegijapranata Pastoral Center in Semarang. The facility is located on the slopes of Mount Ungaran, where the climate is pleasantly cool.

At Rindang Asih 1, 29 elderly women live in a supportive and caring environment, assisted by a team of local staff. The residents are grouped into three categories based on their level of independence:

• Type A: Residents who are largely independent and able to carry out daily activities much like anyone else.

• Type B: Residents who can still contribute to light tasks within the nursing home, with some support.

• Type C: Residents who require full-time care, as they are mostly bedridden or use wheelchairs and need assistance with most daily activities.

The project is located in Central Java

Accommodation

The accommodation and food will be provided by host project. The volunteer will stay at local host family or dormitory (to be confirmed). Facilities are simple and Indonesian style

Volunteer Tasks

• Support local staff with daily care tasks such as cleaning, feeding, and general assistance

• Help organize and facilitate non-formal workshops and group activities

• Plan and lead entertaining, age-appropriate activities for the elderly residents

• Take part in various project-related activities as needed

• Assist local staff with personal care, including helping residents with showering, serving meals, preparing food, and cooking for the elderly

Volunteer Requirements

• Experience: Additional experience or knowledge in caring for elderly people is an advantage.

• Personal qualities: When supporting residents with limited mobility or cognitive abilities, patience and empathy are essential. Volunteers should be able to multitask, be good listeners, and genuinely enjoy spending time with older people.

• Appearance: facial piercings, visible tattoos, and no conventional hairstyle please contact the host organization.

• Attitude and values: Open-minded, tolerant, creative, flexible, patient, respectful of local customs and rules, willing to share, and motivated to work with both children and elderly people. Volunteers should feel confident and be prepared to accept basic living conditions at the project site.
