About

The project is a school center for approximately 250 children, focused on promoting education and rehabilitation for deaf and hard-of-hearing children, as well as children with various disabilities and hearing children. Most of the students come from socially disadvantaged families.

The main aim is to support the development of cognitive, communication, moral, and social skills, enabling the children to become confident and active members of their community.

The center provides education in standard academic subjects, complemented by health education, foreign language learning, and rehabilitation sessions.

Note: Volunteers will have the opportunity to learn Colombian Sign Language.

Location

Chía is a small town located north of Bogotá, approximately 10 km from the capital and less than an hour away by bus. It is lively throughout the week, with a wide range of shops and services in its urban area that reflect the pace and convenience of city life.

At the same time, its rural surroundings offer a contrasting environment, with parks, open fields, and green landscapes where fresh air and a sense of tranquility can be enjoyed throughout the day.

 

Volunteer Tasks

  • Supporting and helping the teachers.
  • Especially taking care of one child.
  • Assisting children from nursery or pre- kindergarten level to adolescents
    (Subjects can be sports and pedagogical learning games).
  • They also could support the administrative office

Volunteer Requirements

  • Willingness to work with deaf children
  • Must be open-minded, sociable, patient, tolerant and creative.
  • Must be willing to attend sign- language classes.
  • Because of the second language (sign- language) a base-level of
  • Spanish is preferable

Accommodation

The volunteers will live with a host family.
