About
Refugees in Mexico are in a vulnerable situation because violence and poverty in their countries forced them to cross Mexico precariously. Their fragile situation worsens due to discriminatory practices by society and governmental institutions in Mexico.
Casa Tochan’s aim is to ensure the respect of human rights of male refugees, elders, or gay individuals in transit through Mexico City. They provide the following services to refugees:
- Professional advice to regularise their legal status in the country. Either so they can stay or keep moving to the USA.
- Medical and psychological services
- Food, clothing, and home.
- Moreover, Casa Tochan collects information about refugees´ profiles. Together with other NGOs, Casa Tochan produces statistical information about refugees’ situation in Mexico to better understand their needs.
Note: Due to the limited space in Casa Tochan, they only receive male refugees who are either elderly or gay.
