About
Women Economic Empowerment Development Organization (WEEDO) is a community-based organization registered under the Department of Social Welfare. It advocates for girls’ rights by reducing financial inequality through skills development programmes that empower approximately 30 girls each year. The primary beneficiaries of the project are girls and young women who have limited access to formal education and come from highly underprivilege backgrounds.

- Financial literacy, business development, and entrepreneurship

- Personal Hygiene Management
- Gardening and nutrition
- Sports and games
Location
WEEDO is located in Kigamboni, a coastal district of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Situated on the southern side of the city, Kigamboni is connected to the city center by both the bridge and a ferry across the Indian Ocean, offering convenient access and scenic coastal views.
Volunteer Tasks
- Teach sewing, handicraft, and fashion design
- Teach computer literacy, communication and digital marketing
- Teach financial literacy, business development, and entrepreneurship
- Teach English language and public speaking
- Support content creation for social media, blog story etc.
- Teach social education i.e. sexual and reproductive health, menstrual hygiene management, personal hygiene management, life skills, gardening, and sports and games.
Volunteer Requirements
- At least 21 years old. Applicants below 21 may be considered if they have relevant professional qualifications or experience
- Demonstrated interest in girls’ empowerment and skills development
- Good spoken and written English communication skills
- Willing to contribute up to 85% of the project’s workload
- Relevant professional experience or skills in vocational training or skills with development programmes
- Professional experience or a strong interest in digital marketing, social media, and content creation
Accommodation
Volunteers stay with carefully selected host families within the local community, providing an authentic cultural experience in a safe and welcoming environment. Host families are located approximately 3–7 km from the project site. Volunteers can enjoy walking around the neighbourhood in the evenings and use public transportation to commute to the project each morning.
