Brief description and main aims

Our Project is near the sprawling Mathare slums where the poverty levels are high with many informal settlements. A large number of the population lives within an income of less than one dollar per day.
The projects aims are to provide education, food and shelter to orphaned, needy and vulnerable children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
 
The project has a total population of 550 students and staff during school days and 50 during holidays.

Main Activities

  • Running of a Pre-school, Primary and Secondary Schools.
  • Feeding program for the children in the program.
  • Child care
  • Sheltering

Volunteer tasks

  • Teaching any subject that the volunteer is skilled in.
  • Participation in co-curricular activities like Music, Drama and Sports

Volunteer requirements / Skills

  • Teaching skills (either in preschool, primary or secondary level)
  • Counselling skills
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Good communication skills  (English language knowledge)
  • Should be motivated and a team player.
  • Arts or sports skills an added advantage
 

Location

MATHARE NORTH AREA 3, NAIROBI

Hosting Situation (Board and Lodging)

  • Volunteer will live with a host family.
  • 10:00 0clock tea and hot lunch will be provided in the project.
