Brief description and main aims
Rindang Asih 1 Elderly is one of the elderly people houses in Ungaran under the coordination by Soegijapranata Pastoral Semarang. This nursing home is located in Ungaran which lies on the slope of Ungaran Mountain, so the climate is cooler. In Rindang Asih 1 elderly, there are 29 women.
There are 3 types of the elderly; type A to type C. Type A means that the elderly can work normally. While elderly representing type B can do some work in the nursing homes. Those who cannot do anything and require a lot of help, belong to the type C.

Volunteer tasks
The role of the volunteer will be assisting local staff in taking care of the elderly people. It is possible for the volunteer to work in shifts, e.g. from morning to afternoon and from afternoon to evening. The volunteer will help elderly people in doing their daily activities, such as cooking, arranging activities, or going for a walk outside with them.

Volunteer requirements / SkillsThe volunteer should love to work with elderly people and be open-minded, mature, respectful of local customs, tolerant, creative, flexible, patient, confident and independent. The volunteer should also be willing to accept basic living conditions in the project site. The volunteer should have never been found guilty in a criminal case. It is strictly prohibited to possess narcotics, marijuana, opium, stimulants or other drugs. The volunteer should not have piercings on the face and no visible tattoos. A common hairstyle (not colourful, dreadlocks) is requested. Flexible vegetarians are welcomed but unfortunately, we are not able to host strict vegetarians (vegan). Please accept our apology that we are not able to host volunteers with mental disabilities or people with mobility and movement impairments, such as a limitation on physical functioning, blindness, deftness, epilepsy, sleep disorders etc.) |
LocationThe project is located in Central Java. Terminal of arrival: Semarang Airport, railway station (Volunteer is NOT ALLOWED to buy a flight ticket before getting the visa and confirmation from the host organization). |
Hosting Situation (Board and Lodging)The accommodation and food will be provided by host project. The volunteer will stay with a local host family or at a dormitory (to be confirmed). Facilities are simple and Indonesian style (no hot water, no washing machine). |
More InformationThe project is open for a female volunteer only. To respect all the regulation due to COVID-19 the volunteers should follow the health protocol obligated by the Government of Indonesia. |
