Brief description and main aimsForeign language (English, French, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Arabic) and culture has entered Indonesian education curriculum in the recent years and has been introduced to high school students. In this level, they learn basic foreign language skills, such as greetings, vocabulary and constructing simple sentences. Besides that, they also learn about the culture. Sometimes, the school makes foreign culture festivals in the end of the year. In university level, it has become a major of studies. Student, who is under language department, is also given the option to learn foreign language and culture as their minor studies. In university, the students learn more about the language, such as grammatical, pronunciation, vocabulary, history, art, letter etc. |
Volunteer tasksThe role of the volunteer will be assisting local teacher in teaching a foreign Language (Japanese, English, French, Korean, Mandarin, Arabic etc.) Moreover, the presence of volunteers could give them motivation in practicing their foreign language knowledge. Intercultural learning in a form of dialogue, music and games could give the student better understanding of another culture. |
Volunteer requirements / SkillsThe volunteer should love to work with young people and be open-minded, mature, respectful of local customs, tolerant, creative, flexible, patient, confident and independent. The volunteer should also be willing to accept basic living conditions in the project site. The volunteer should have never been found guilty in a criminal case. It is strictly prohibited to possess narcotics, marijuana, opium, stimulants or other drugs. The volunteer should not have piercings on the face and no visible tattoos. A common hairstyle (not colourful, dreadlocks) is requested. Flexible vegetarians are welcomed but unfortunately, we are not able to host strict vegetarians (vegan). Please accept our apology that we are not able to host volunteers with mental disabilities or people with mobility and movement impairments, such as a limitation on physical functioning, blindness, deftness, epilepsy, sleep disorders etc.) |
LocationThese projects are located on Java Island. The terminal of Arrival: Semarang Airport, railway station (Volunteer is NOT ALLOWED to buy a flight ticket before getting the visa and confirmation from the host organization). |
Hosting Situation (Board and Lodging)The accommodation and food will be provided by the host project. The volunteer will stay with a local host family or at a dormitory (to be confirmed). Facilities are simple and Indonesian style (no hot water, no washing machine). |
