Brief description and main aims

In the recent years, the school has developed some new programs. They are international and also inclusive. International program is designed in order to facilitate the student who wishes to use English as their main communication language in the class. The regular class activities start from Monday to Saturday, from 7 am to 1 pm.
 
After 1 pm, the students are given the choice to participate in some clubs which are provided by school. There are sports, music, art, English club, Mathematic club, computer, and discipline club such as boyscout. These schools are located in the urban setting of some cities, such as in Semarang, Kudus etc.
 
The primary school classifies their students into 7 grades according to the educational system in Indonesia for elementary level. This classification is based on the ability and also the age of the students. There are about 20 to 30 students in each class and the students are from 7 – 12 years old.

Volunteer tasks

The role of the volunteers will be assisting local teachers in classes like teaching basic conversation skills in English and helping teacher in giving training. Moreover, the volunteer is expected to motivate the students in practicing their English skills. In addition, intercultural learning, such as songs, arts or music will be very much welcomed.

Volunteer requirements / Skills

The volunteer should love to work with children and be open-minded, mature, respectful of local customs, tolerant, creative, flexible, patient, confident and independent especially in motivating the students to speak up and be active in practicing conversation.

The volunteer should have never been found guilty in a criminal case. It is strictly prohibited to possess narcotics, marijuana, opium, stimulants or other drugs. The volunteer should not have piercings on the face and no visible tattoos. A common hairstyle (not colourful, dreadlocks) is requested and a Certificate of Good Conduct from the police will be needed. Flexible vegetarians are welcomed but unfortunately, we are not able to host strict vegetarians (vegan).

Location

These projects are located in Java Island

The terminal of Arrival: Semarang Airport, railway station (Volunteer is NOT ALLOWED to buy a flight ticket before getting the visa and confirmation from the host organization).

Hosting Situation (Board and Lodging)

The accommodation and food will be provided by host project. The volunteer will stay with a local host family or at a dormitory. Facilities are simple and Indonesian style (no hot water, no washing machine).
