MWANDILIWA is an orphanage that hosts children who have lost their parents or were abandoned in the street. The centre provides them with shelter, clothes, health and education at government schools. The orphanage is home to 60 children from the age of 2 to 18 years; most of them are brought in by a social welfare officer.
The orphanage currently runs a pre-school program, but the founders are planning to build a primary and secondary schools as they recognize the importance of investing in education.
The project started in 2002 with 3 children, but it has continued to grow over the years. It was registered as an NGO in 2006 under the Ministry responsible for community development.
MWANDILIWA's mission is to make sure disadvantaged children can live a better life and can receive the fundamental education. Its objective is to continue to expand and to build a primary and secondary schools.
