Brief description and main aims

The Salvation Army Rehabilitation Centre is a Medical Centre that provides physiotherapies and rehabilitation service to children and adults. They also go on outreach and provide general health care at the community levels.

 

The aim and priority of the centre is to provide support to the physically challenged in the society especially:

• The poor - people who are economically disadvantaged and whose access to other sources of health care is restricted.

• Children - treatment performed early in a child's life is often more effective. The ultimate aim in assisting children with impairments is to facilitate their inclusion in education. This priority does not exclude treatments of some adults.

Main Activities

The centre assists and supports people with disabilities especially children and vulnerable adults through:

• Pysiotherapy services
• Providing assistive devices like canes, crutches, walkers, wheelchairs etc.
• Suppprting to undergo surgeries 
• Counselling and psychosocial support

Volunteer tasks

• Assisting the clinical staff in providing physiotherapy and rehab services
• Assisting those in the centre in their daily task
• Going on outreach programmes to provide general health care and rehab services at the community level
• Helping in the clinic by doing administrative / secretariat job

Location

The Salvation Army Rehabilitation Centres can be found in three different regions in Ghana:

• Begoro in the eastern region
• Wiamose in the Ashanti region
• Agona Duakwa in the central region of Ghana

All the centres perform the same duties and services.
