Brief description and main aims

A project working with vulnerable kids and teenagers in Bogotá. They work with love, commitment, service and courage, providing appropriate care in an effort to provide sustainable life recovery.

Main Activities

The project hosts about 60 children with multiple genetic syndromes, cerebral palsy, cardiopulmonary diseases, kidney and other liver diseases. These children have been abandoned by their families in hospitals. They offer the children a suitable house for their needs, restore their violated rights and care for them. A multidisciplinary team administers this: nutritionist, physical therapist, respiratory therapist, occupational therapist, psychologist.

Volunteer tasks

  • Support the head of nursing with activities, such as bottle time, clothes changing etc.
  • Support the pedagogic team with different activities
  • Support the children in their recreational activities
  • Helping the children during meal time
  • Reading workshops
  • Help with the laundry
  • Special education classes/workshops

Volunteer requirements / Skills

  • Willing to be independent
  • Open-minded (without fear to work with disabled children)
  • An affectionate disposition
  • Willing to do some manual work as well
  • Social science or humanities background to share knowledge in these areas (Desired but not necessary) 
Important: You need to be proactive and motivated to work with disabled people. This  role requires tolerance and patience. The volunteer must have the necessary qualities to work  with people with various types of disability.They should be able to learn from the kids, understand their condition and background.

Location

The project is located in Bogotá. Bogotá is the capital of Colombia and the political, economic, administrative, industrial, artistic, cultural, and sports center of the country. It is the biggest city in Colombia, the third highest in the world above sea level and known for its high number of universities,  libraries and cultural events. It has a population estimated at around10 million.

Hosting Situation (Board and Lodging)

The volunteers will live with a host family.
