The YMCA Athlone is a public, non profit organization. The organisation is informed by Christian values, seeks to prepare young people for life leadership and service through focused development and sustainable programs.
The YMCA Athlone passionately seeks opportunities to provide affordable accommodation and accessible, stimulating progress to bring about positive changes in a caring environment, thus developing and improving all people.
Residential, physical and emotional care are provided for young people and facilities for culture, sports, games, physical training, recreation and entertainment, on a non – professional basis are also provided.
In addition the facilities at the YMCA are utilized for work shops, celebrations and commoration events pertaining to youth and the broader community, meeting, exercise classes, dancing classes, counselling, support groups, awareness campaigns, health programmes targeting local churches, and NGO’s.
Volunteer Youth Support Staff:
Assist with daily after school programmes (6-17 year old)
Assist weekends when the kids have outings.
Assist when camps are arranged and at the campsites.
Assist with all types of general work and programmes i.e sports activities, arts and crafts, fun and games, ect.
Attend all evaluation meetings or Youth gatherings.
Attend all training or workshops that the volunteer is assigned to.
Volunteer requirements / Skills
The volunteers must:
Be honest, friendly, energetic.
Have excellent social skills.
Present a positive attitude at all times.
Have computer literacy.
Display leadership and facilitation experience.
Be unassuming, obliging and willing to get involved even in areas that are unfamiliar to them.

This is a short-term or long term placement with a community NGO which works with “street wise” you where volunteers become the role models for the youth.
