Brief description and main aims

Aldeas S.O.S. is an international NGO that has been working since 1949. It looks to provide children with basic necessities and protect their human rights. This project gives a permanent home and a healthy environment for abandoned and disabled children who have lost their parents or who are no longer able to live with them. It helps them to build their own future and to be involved in the development of their communities. 

Main Activities

Aldea SOS provides a family structure for children. Each kid lives in a house with an “SOS Mother”, and plays in the village with other children as brothers and sisters do. The project also provides physical and psychological rehabilitation through different kinds of therapy. Finally, Aldeas SOS helps the community through social centers, kindergartens, clinics, training centers and schools forthe general public.

Volunteer tasks

  • Assist teachers in academic tasks
  • Assist teachers during physical rehabilitation
  • Assist in sports lessons for children with or without disabilities
  • General support in the village 

Volunteer requirements / Skills

  • Intermediate level of Spanish
  • Interest in working with children and youngsters with disabilities
  • Enthusiasm and willing to help others
  • Patience and sensibility 

Location

The project is located in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas.

Hosting Situation (Board and Lodging)

The volunteer will live with a host family in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas.
