In 2005, two friends - a special education teacher and a mother of a mentally challenged child - shared their mutual desire to establish a school for children with multiple disabilities. In January of 2007, these women partnered together to open Beautiful Gate Special School (BGSS) in Mysore, India.
Our aim is to help every disabled child achieve their full potential, irrespective of caste, creed or ability to pay, while treating them with the respect and dignity every human being deserves.
Our vision is to deliver our educational services directly to the communities where special needs children live. Our method of providing these services will be by the establishment of community based learning centres throughout our city and state.
Social Activities: Our curriculum provides students the opportunity to learn while enjoying a wide variety of social activities such as group play, music and dance, arts and crafts. This not only helps the students to develop academically but also physically, socially and emotionally.
The volunteer's tasks include:
teaching/assisting in one of the classes (language, math, craft, computer, therapy).
supervising the children in their daily activities, play-time, feeding and special project days.
