Brief description and main aims

The aims of Hohepa School are to provide education and life skills programs for school students with intellectual disability.

Volunteer tasks

Among some of the tasks are:

  • Assist teachers.
  • Help deliver learning programs under the guidance of the teacher.
  • Take students for a walk as required 
  • Assist students who require help with personal hygiene and eating
  • Mantain a physical environment and ensure students are well supervised 
  • Work individually with students and become an active membor of the class team 

Volunteer requirements / Skills

This project will test you but give you the greatest rewards. Volunteers working in this project must:

  • Have empathy and interest in working with young people with special needs.
  • Be a male volunteer.
  • Want to invest in others and go outside of your comfort zone.
  • Be patient.
  • Have a caring personality.
  • Be flexible and a good listener.
  • Be active and open to new experiences.

Location

Napier, North Island.

Hosting Situation (Board and Lodging)

Accommodation is in a lodge type setting on the schoolgrounds. Lunch is provided at school. Food vouchers are supplied for making your other meals yourself.
