About the Project

Psiquiátrico San Juan de Dios provides psychiatric care to adults with psychological disorders and drug dependencies, particularly those from rural or low-income families. The institution serves patients from the Departments of Cochabamba, Oruro, and La Paz.

The primary objectives are to:

  • Contribute to the mental health of the Bolivian population.
  • Offer therapeutic care and rehabilitation for alcoholism and drug addiction within a Therapeutic Community model.
  • Provide outpatient and external monitoring, including family support when needed.
  • Ensure friendly, welcoming, and comprehensive care for hospitalized patients.

As a public institution, Psiquiátrico San Juan de Dios houses two distinct treatment centers: one dedicated to individuals with psychological disorders and another for drug rehabilitation. Both centers offer accommodation and care, including psychological and spiritual support, to their respective patient populations.

Volunteer Tasks

The volunteer is to help with psychological treatment of the residents, with their physical rehabilitation and support the job of the professionals. In the Occupational Therapy Workshop performs the following activities.

Carpentry and painting workshop, dressmaking, hairdressing, ceramics, hiking, hiking therapeutic, embroidery, didactic, silkscreen, gym.

Volunteer Requirements

It would be preferable to have education and/or experience in the areas of health or psychology. Also,they must be emotionally strong, patient, have a lot of motivation and initiative.
