About

Voices of Youth Tanzania (VOYOTA) is a non-profit organisation based in Arusha, Southern Tanzania. It was founded with the core mission of inspiring and empowering grassroots youth to unlock their potential and utilise their talents for a better future.

Their activities include:

  • Empowerment: Providing skills development training for youth and women in sewing, computer literacy, and gardening to enhance employability, entrepreneurship, and income-generating opportunities.
  • Environmental Awareness: Conducting environmental education campaigns and tree-planting initiatives in schools and communities to promote environmental conservation and sustainable practices.
  • Market Access & Business Development: Supporting entrepreneurs through business development training, financial literacy, communication skills, and digital marketing to strengthen market access and improve business sustainability.
  • Social Education & Community Hub: Providing sexual and reproductive health education for both in-school and out-of-school youth while offering a safe community space with internet access and educational resources to support learning, personal development, and access to information.

Location

The project is located in USA River, Arumeru, 23201 Arusha. USA River is a vibrant and culturally diverse neighbourhood strategically located along the Arusha–Moshi Highway. The area is home to both local residents and expatriates, creating a welcoming environment with rich intercultural experiences.

Volunteer Tasks

  • Teach computer literacy, digital market and communication
  • Provide financial literacy and business development
  • Help managerial tasks such as report writing, set-up plan for activities and programmes
  • Teach English language for communication
  • Facilitate sexual and reproductive health education, and life skills training
  • Support with social media lead, content creation and newsletter
  • Manage community hub, library and monitor hub facilities
  • Support resource mobilisation and fundraising campaigns

Volunteer Requirements

  • Skills and experience in one of these fields: report writing, resource mobilisation, proposal writing, financial management or business development
  • Public speaking and sharing knowledge with local youth
  • Knowledge in computer and digital market
  • Understanding and speaking in English
  • Passionate on youth development

Accommodation

Volunteers are accommodated with carefully selected host families, providing an authentic opportunity to experience Tanzanian culture and daily life. The neighbourhood offers convenient access to essential social services, including shops, restaurants, health facilities, banks, and public transportation, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable stay throughout the volunteer placement.
