About the Project
Hertha Bofællesskab, situated in the village of Herskind in central Jutland, is a Camphill-inspired intentional community where adults with and without special needs live, work, and share their daily lives. The core aim of Hertha is to cultivate a meaningful and inclusive environment where every individual can contribute and find a sense of belonging within a shared purpose. While the community draws inspiration from anthroposophical traditions that shape certain aspects of daily life and activities, volunteers are not required to adhere to any specific philosophy. Instead, openness and respect are valued, particularly during shared routines like morning assemblies. Approximately 140 people reside in Hertha, comprising residents with developmental disabilities, co-workers, families, and volunteers. The community’s life revolves around collaborative work, creative endeavors, and mutual respect. Residents and co-workers actively participate in the village’s daily rhythm, which encompasses a diverse range of workshops and communal activities, including a bakery, dairy, farm, gardens, weaving workshop, kitchen, and café.
