About

‘MASTA-Maisha’ stands for ‘Marafiki wa Stadi za Maisha’ which translates ‘Friends of Life Skills’. It is a non-profit social initiative dedicated to bridging the financial gap among girls and young women in rural communities surrounding the Mvomero District, Tanzania. The project provides skills development programmes that empower them with practical and entrepreneurial skills, enabling them to achieve greater financial independence. By improving economic opportunities, MASTA-Maisha contributes to reducing gender inequality and preventing gender-based violence while fostering self-reliance and sustainable livelihoods.

Their activities include:

Skills Development

  • Tailoring, handcraft, and fashion design
  • Communication and digital marketing
  • Financial literacy, business development, and entrepreneurship
  • English language and public speaking

Sports Development: Netball, and other recreational activities for team building and personal growth

Social Education

  • Life skills training,
  • Sexual and reproductive health education
  • Personal Hygiene Management
  • Public speaking and presentation/pitching
  • Behavioural change & growth

Location

MASTA-Maisha is located in Mvomero District, 67301 Morogoro. It is a peaceful rural village surrounded by mountains and forests. The area offers a safe, welcoming environment with a cool climate, giving volunteers the chance to experience the natural beauty and authentic lifestyle of rural Tanzania.

Volunteer Tasks

  • Assist in teaching tailoring, handicrafts, and fashion design
  • Support the facilitation of communication, digital marketing, and content creation training
  • Teach financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and small business development
  • Teach English, life skills, sexual and reproductive health education, and behaviour change
  • Assist in coaching netball and organising other recreational activities that promote personal growth and teamwork.
  • Support with fundraising, proposal development, and resource mobilisation to enhance project sustainability.
  • Assist with social media management, blog writing, and content creation.
  • Support with administrative tasks, including activity reporting, finance and administration department,
  • Participate in community outreach, awareness campaigns, and other social activities.

Volunteer Requirements

  • Willing to work in a small-town with limited infrastructure.
  • Passionate on gender equality and financial freedom for girls and young women
  • Speaking and writing in English
  • Professional or interest in resource mobilization, digital fundraising, accounts, project management or administration
  • Experience in coaching netball or recreational activities
  • Fashion designer or tailor
  • Confident to talk in public

Accommodation

Volunteers stay in shared rooms within the local community, offering them a safe and comfortable living environment while experience the local culture.
