‘MASTA-Maisha’ stands for ‘Marafiki wa Stadi za Maisha’ which translates ‘Friends of Life Skills’. It is a non-profit social initiative dedicated to bridging the financial gap among girls and young women in rural communities surrounding the Mvomero District, Tanzania. The project provides skills development programmes that empower them with practical and entrepreneurial skills, enabling them to achieve greater financial independence. By improving economic opportunities, MASTA-Maisha contributes to reducing gender inequality and preventing gender-based violence while fostering self-reliance and sustainable livelihoods.
Their activities include:
Skills Development
- Tailoring, handcraft, and fashion design
- Communication and digital marketing
- Financial literacy, business development, and entrepreneurship
- English language and public speaking
Sports Development: Netball, and other recreational activities for team building and personal growth
Social Education
- Life skills training,
- Sexual and reproductive health education
- Personal Hygiene Management
- Public speaking and presentation/pitching
- Behavioural change & growth
Location
MASTA-Maisha is located in Mvomero District, 67301 Morogoro. It is a peaceful rural village surrounded by mountains and forests. The area offers a safe, welcoming environment with a cool climate, giving volunteers the chance to experience the natural beauty and authentic lifestyle of rural Tanzania.
