About the Project

Løgumkloster Højskole is a folk high school (højskole) beautifully situated in the small town of Løgumkloster in Southern Jutland, close to the German border.

The school lies in peaceful surroundings near forests and open fields, with the town’s old abbey and historic buildings creating a calm and inspiring setting for learning and reflection.

The højskole has a long tradition of combining culture, dialogue, and community, offering courses that invite students to explore big questions about life, society, and the world around them. The subjects include music, arts, philosophy, communication, politics, spirituality, and cultural understanding, as well as shorter themed courses throughout the year. The school attracts both young adults and older students, creating a diverse and inclusive community where everyone learns from one another.

Accommodation

Volunteers placed at a højskole typically live on campus, becoming part of the school community. This allows you to participate fully in everyday life, social activities, and shared meals. Staying with a host family is not an option for højskole placements.

Volunteer’s Tasks

As a volunteer, you can take part in many different activities at the school. It’s possible to work in the kitchen, where healthy vegan and vegetarian meals are prepared for around 80 people every day. Here you might help with cooking, cutting vegetables, baking, cleaning, and setting tables for events. You can also join the work in the garden, where the school grows its own organic vegetables and cares for sheep, hens, and ducks. Tasks include planting, harvesting, weeding, and keeping the outdoor areas tidy. If you enjoy working with your hands, you can help with upcycling and maintenance projects.

As a volunteer, you will be part of an open and friendly community with many young people. You’ll have the chance to join one course and all events at the school, and take part in lectures, concerts, and trips together with students and staff.
