In the Kusunoki Nursery and Kindergarden, volunteers support the nursery teachers in the morning and afternoon activities offered to the children. This can include accompanying children on walks, helping meals, playing with them, cleaning.

You are expected to sign ICYE’s policy Care to Engage on Safeguarding Children.

Volunteer Tasks

Volunteers will :

• assist with taking care of children from 0 years old to 6 years old, such as taking them to the park, preparing snacks, reading picture books.
• be assigned to a class according to your Japanese level. If you have a basic level of Japanese, you will work with the 0-2 year old class. If you can hold a simple conversation, you will support the classes from 3 years and older.
• teach English and introduce their own culture.
• prepare and join some seasonal activities (summer festival etc…)

Volunteer Requirements

In Japan, it is very important to maintain a harmonious facial expression and behaviour. Especially when interacting with children and their parents, it is necessary to have the communication skills to greet and talk with a smile.
