About

Grace Secondary School is a charitable boarding and day educational institution operating under the President’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (PO-RALG). The project provides an English-medium, holistic education that emphasises academic excellence, character development, and digital literacy. It was established as an expansion of Grace Pre- and Primary School, building on its strong foundation to continue nurturing well-rounded and future-ready young students.

They teach an academic curriculum from form I–IV, that includes academic subjects i.e. Arts, Business and Science, digital literacy, basic computer applications, graphic design, social media management as well as sport and creational activities. They also teach life skills, personal hygiene management and gardening and manual work.

Location

The school is located in 61304 Zinga, Bagamoyo Road. Zinga is a small-town bordering with Dar es Salaam and Bagamoyo, with reliable public transport connections, a safe environment, and a welcoming local community that offers a rich cultural experience of the coastal region (Pwani).

Accommocation

Accommodation offered in 5 km away from the project, with a volunteers’ shared room, breakfast, dinner and boiled water on the weekdays. On the weekends and public holidays volunteers offered three meals and during the weekdays’ volunteers get lunch at the project.

Volunteer Tasks

  • Support in teaching the academic subjects (arts, science or business)
  • Teach digital literacy
  • Facilitate communication skills, creativity sessions, and social education
  • Coach the children in football or netball
  • Participate in gardening and animal keeping
  • Conduct teachers’ training (for professional teachers)
  • Working at the library as an assistant to the librarian

Volunteer Requirements

  • Be willing to live in a small-town setting with locals.
  • Be passionate about youth development and academic curriculum
  • Have professional experience as a teacher in arts, science or business subjects
  • Show interest in gardening and domestic animal keeping
  • Be able to speak and write in English
