About

The aim of the school is to give the children of the surrounding area the opportunity to receive an excellent education including English classes and also have food at school.

The day starts at 7:40am with the children having breakfast, later they have classes including among others English, Computer Science and Physical Education. At 10am the classes are interrupted by a snack. At 1:30 pm their parents pick them up.

Tumbaco, Quito – Pichincha

El Arenal is an area approximately one hour from Quito, which is located near the Valley “Tumbaco”. Caminitos de Luz is situated in a rather rural area. Despite the fact that there are some fancy houses, the majority of people do not have many resources.

Volunteer’s Tasks

The volunteer can participate in a variety of tasks such as:

• Supporting the staff in any way
• Helping to teach English
• Planning classes and taking care of the children
• Recreational activities: outdoors games, workshops, theater plays, etc

Volunteer’s Requirements

The volunteers should like to work with children and feel comfortable playing with them, teaching them and taking care of them. Volunteers also must be very proactive, flexible and be ready to help in any need of the school. Basic Spanish skills are helpful but not necessary.
