About the Project

Ayni Ruway implements projects within the four prison facilities of Cochabamba City (San Sebastian Women, Men San Sebastian, San Antonio, El Abra) and two sites in the provinces. The organization also engages with current and potential buyers, both domestic and international, of products made by inmates, aiming to maintain a constant relationship to ensure a secure income source for prisoners.

Ayni Ruway’s central mission is to advocate for the equality of inmates, former inmates, and their families. Through workshops and skill-sharing, they aim to improve the quality of life and facilitate the societal reintegration of incarcerated individuals.

Specific goals include:

  • Services within Prisons and Community Center: Offering educational, health, and legal services within all Cochabamba prisons and to former inmates at their community center.
  • Workshops: Conducting workshops on violence prevention and skill-sharing/training to help inmates generate income.
  • Childcare Services: Providing childcare for the children of current and former inmates.
  • Marketing and Distribution: Assisting with the marketing and distribution of goods produced by current and former inmates.

Ayni Ruway has established two nurseries: one in the San Sebastian Prison – Women (caring for 30 children) and another at Ayni Ruwaya’s offices (caring for 40 children). Both nurseries provide comprehensive care for children aged 0 to 6 years. They also run a project called “House of Teenagers,” which offers workshops to children of teenage inmates and former inmates. Furthermore, AYNI Ruwaya runs a program focused on attending to inmates and ex-inmates from six Cochabamba prisons, with the primary objective of supporting mothers and fathers to improve the quality of life for their children who are directly affected by their families’ situations.
