About
APAC serves people with cerebral palsy from birth to adulthood by providing them with education services and comprehensive rehabilitation. Additionally the project aims to:
- Provide individualised education to the students looking to achieve their maximum development in an environment that promotes self-esteem and encourages socialisation with peers.
- Achieve the maximum possible rehabilitation through early detection and design of customized physical and psychological rehabilitation programmes.
- Provide special training and necessary tools so the participants can get a job and achieve self-sufficiency, independence, and social inclusion.
- Create awareness of the needs of people with cerebral palsy through advice, training, and participation in human rights organizations.
The project offers comprehensive rehabilitation (biological, psychological, and social) for people with cerebral palsy, from childhood to adulthood. The center for rehabilitation offers the following services:
- Educational services: Providing schooling from pre-school to high school to the participants and non-formal education for young people through different recreational workshops and training.
- Rehabilitation services (physical therapy, occupational therapy, hydrotherapy, and communication): The project has an early intervention service for high-risk babies. This is a preventive programme where they teach the parents how to monitor their baby and encourage their development. The organisation provides individualised and customised attention to each one of their students.
- Provide food to participants. The food is prepared and brought to the center by their parents. The project team supports students who, because of their level of disability, cannot eat independently.
The Psychology Department provides family caregiving courses, talks on specific topics, and group/individual therapy. They provide individual therapy to students who request it.
Most of the families that attend APAC only have low income. Students are divided into 3 educational centers according to their age and/or skills: Early Learning, Preschool & Elementary: This group consists of infants from 18 months to 3 years old who come with their parents twice a week.
