About the Project

In Bolivia, research and development across all fields face significant limitations in accessing information resources. This is primarily due to bibliographic resources being held in private, inaccessible collections, and an inefficient, underfunded, and inaccessible library system in La Paz. The existing system comprises isolated units lacking inter-library exchange protocols and other essential services, which negatively impacts higher education and research. This resource scarcity is particularly evident in fields like Music and the Arts, leading to identified educational programs of low quality.
The Flavio Machicado Viscarra Foundation (FFMV) aims to address these challenges by establishing an Information Centre for Research in the Arts, Music, and Social and Human Sciences. This center will improve access to information resources, promote scientific research, and foster creativity. Furthermore, it will serve as a support for the development of La Paz’s library system through cataloging and enhancing collections (library, historical archives, newspaper archives, and sound archives), disseminating cataloged resources, promoting reading, and organizing cultural activities such as concerts and poetry readings.
