About the Project

Alas de Colibrí, an organization based in northern Quito, is dedicated to combating child labor and begging in Ecuador by providing a safe haven for young girls who have experienced abuse, including domestic violence, sexual abuse, child labor, and human trafficking. These girls reside in the home for periods of three to six months, during which they receive crucial psychological and educational support to rebuild their confidence, reclaim their lives, and develop future prospects. Within this supportive environment, Alas de Colibrí offers educational accompaniment, diverse workshops such as handicrafts, costume jewelry, and gastronomy, promotes sports activities, and organizes enriching excursions. Additionally, the organization provides vital legal support for the underage residents. Following their stay, the girls may either return to their families or be transitioned to other shelters.
