The Salvation Army Community-Based Rehabilitation Centre was founded in 1986 with a primary focus on supporting children with cerebral palsy, as well as individuals with other disabilities.

The centre operates through the following units:

1. Mental Health
   This unit consists of nurses specialized in psychiatric care. They respond to and manage psychiatric emergencies, provide immediate support and interventions, conduct community outreach and education, and care for children with conditions.

2. Social Rehabilitation
   This unit receives and follows up on cases, organizes events, and seeks sponsorship opportunities.

3. Prosthetics and Orthotics
   This unit operates as a workshop specializing in the design and production of assistive and supportive devices to improve mobility and functional independence for individuals with disabilities and injuries.

4. Therapy
   This unit includes professionals such as physiotherapists who provide therapeutic services to patients to support their physical development and rehabilitation.

5. Shelter School for Orphans and Vulnerable Children
   In 1989, the centre established a school for orphans and vulnerable children in the community. Through this initiative, the centre provides free basic education and prepares the children to transition into the formal school system. Currently, approximately 15 children benefit from this facility.

The centre also has a hospital and provides general health care services to the community and beyond.

Volunteer Tasks

• Assisting the clinical staff in the various departments/unit in their
  daily tasks
• Go on outreach with the staff to provide general healthcare
  and Rehab services in the community.
• Assist in the Clinic by doing administrative work.

Volunteer Requirements

• Volunteers with English skills can volunteer at the Centre.
• However, volunteers who have the passion to work with people with disabilities or work in a health facility are welcome.

Agona Duakwa, Central Region of Ghana

Accommodation

Volunteers will be staying with host families. These families are usually staff of the Centre.
