About

Hat Yai Chivasuk Public Health Service Center serves as an integrative medical center, focusing on learning and integrating knowledge of medicine and Eastern wisdom to offer an alternative approach to healthcare. The services include traditional Thai massage, Thai herbal medicine, physical therapy, and naturopathy. The centre is staffed with a multidisciplinary team from Hat Yai Municipality, including Thai traditional medicine doctors, physical therapists, nutritionists, and sports scientists.

It offers

  • Traditional Thai Medicine Services (e.g. analysing health issues based on the balance of elements and treating the root cause of diseases, Thai traditional massage)
  • Physical Therapy Services (e.g. exercise programmes or hydrotherapy)
  • Nutritional Services (e.g. personalized dietary advice, including instructions on foods to avoid)
  • Sports Science Services (e.g. advice on muscle training and relaxation techniques)

Volunteer Tasks

Volunteers will support the work of the Hatyai health care service center, especially with the administrative management of the patients as well as with community service. Volunteers will have a chance to do the service in the communities with the health care staff. Volunteers can also learn Thai treatment such as Thai massage, local wisdom and treatment with herbs and food, etc.

Volunteer Requirements

  • Open to learn about Asian approaches to medicine.
  • Speak English
  • Basic knowledge of Thai helpful

Accommodation

Participants will stay with host family, sharing a room with another family member. You can help to prepare Breakfast and Dinner in the family. Lunch will be at the project site. Volunteer are expected to eat Thai food and to help the host family with preparing meals.
