IED Las Huacas is a rural public school located approximately 25 minutes from Popayán, the main city of the region. The school operates daily, with classes typically held from Monday to Saturday during the morning shift. It serves students of all ages, from preschool to high school, and runs a variety of projects alongside its academic program. Environmental education is a key focus due to its rural setting, and the school implements several initiatives such as recycling programs and a school garden that includes the cultivation of medicinal plants.

Volunteers can support and participate in the following projects:

• Recycling initiatives

• “De paso en el museo” (Going Through the Museum)

• School garden: cultivation of medicinal plants

In addition, the volunteer may assist with managing the school’s social media and website.

The school works with people from the city of Popayan and other municipalities and small towns near this city. They have students from preschool, elementary, and high school.

Volunteer Tasks

• The volunteer will support a range of activities and events taking place at the school. They will also assist teachers in the classroom, particularly in subjects that match their interests, including English language classes.
• The volunteer will have the opportunity to contribute to and participate in the school’s ongoing projects.
• In addition, they may support the management of the school’s social media and website.
• The school encourages initiative and is open to new ideas or projects that the volunteer may wish to develop during their stay.
