About

Nepal’s health system is still far below the international standard. Working in a community hospital or health post, shadowing local medical professionalsm you will learn a lot about healthcare practices in a country of the Global South .

The aim of the programme is to provide health care services at an affordable cost with quality health services for local community members. At the same time, to produce skilled health professionals by providing them with an opportunity to explore their knowledge and skill.

Notes

  • Volunteers must bring a white coat or scrub, as without this volunteers are not allowed to work.
  • Volunteers will mostly be observing due to the potential risks, and medical regulations. This means that you will not treat patients.

Kathmandu, Chitwan

Food and Accommodation

Volunteers will mostly stay with host families or share rooms with international volunteers of the same gender who are also participating in the programme. Three meals a day (lunch, snack, and dinner) will be provided during your stay. The food is prepared in local style. Main types of food will be rice, lentil soup and vegetables.

Volunteer Tasks

  • To assist local doctors and medical staff with getting medicines/supplies.
  • You will be assigned work according to your level of experience.
  • Chances to visit and observe or organize patient’s condition in every department.
  • Volunteer’s work in the hospital includes treating minor injuries, taking weight, record keeping of patients, a general medical checkup of patients, assisting local doctors, and similar responsibilities.
  • You can also choose to work in administration.

Volunteer Requirements

  • Volunteers must be at least 18 years old
  • Volunteers need to have a reference letter as well as a certificate from a hospital or college.
  • Volunteers will need to have a basic knowledge in healthcare.
  • Volunteers should be reliable and  motivated to learn.
  • Volunteers should have an open mind, and a flexible attitude for working in a new & different environment.
  • Volunteers need to have confidence and management skills to ensure effective support
  • Volunteers should bring positive energy and enthusiasm to make a difference while joining the program.
  • Volunteers should have no criminal convictions and should provide a clean criminal background check report.
